Working Towards Providing Greener Manufacturing Services

While we’ve always been environmentally conscious at Axenics, we realize that what we do, by nature, requires abundant use of energy and resources. We have recently started to make a stronger effort towards implementing greener manufacturing services, and ultimately more sustainable practices throughout every aspect of our manufacturing operations.

Greener Manufacturing Services

While applying more green manufacturing practices is the environmentally-friendly way to do business, it’s about more than simply doing the right thing. For Axenics, the need and desire to think more consciously about how to make our contract manufacturing services more sustainable is not just a current trend. Rather, it is a company value that we are continually improving upon.

Providing greener manufacturing services benefits not only our company, but our customers as well. By putting more sustainable practices into place, we realize that we can become more efficient in providing our core services, more competitive in our quality delivered, and more profitable in the long run. These same benefits apply to our customers, as they become the recipient of higher quality products and services, as well as potential cost savings.

Getting the Whole Company on Board

In order to get everyone within the company on board with greener manufacturing services, we know it takes consistent and clear communication. Everyone needs to be on the same page, and to be aware of the goals and steps required to get there. In addition, everyone must be able speak their ideas, objections and hesitations. Without everyone’s cooperation, it would be nearly impossible to succeed.

In order to bring everyone together to understand importance of providing greener manufacturing services, and the benefits that this will provide, we have been meeting regularly to discuss sustainability as a company. Everyone is encouraged to shut off lights that aren’t being used, reduce material scraps, and recycle waste whenever possible.

Steps to Going Greener

Axenics already has a formal program in place to recycle paper, metal, aluminum, stainless steel, cardboard, and a variety of other materials. However, we are continuously looking to improve green practices wherever we can.

1. Paperless
   We are currently in the process of going paperless with all aspects of the business that can be operated digitally. This will allow us to save money and time, as well as to reduce the amount of paper waste we make.
2. LED Lighting
   We are also working on changing the lights throughout our facility to LED lighting. Though it may seem like a small change, every little bit helps in reducing energy consumption.
3. Regular Maintenance
   We perform regular maintenance on our equipment, and keep logs to track when each piece of equipment was last maintained. This helps us to keep things running properly, and as energy efficient as possible.
4. Energy Efficient Equipment
   Some of our existing equipment is already energy efficient, while some of it is not. As we purchase new equipment to replace older models, we look for models that can produce at a higher capacity, but use less energy.

The money saved by reducing energy costs throughout all of our operations can also be passed on to our customers. In the end, providing greener manufacturing services and working towards running a more sustainable organization is good for both internal and external stakeholders.
